‘Several’ victims in life-threatening condition following crash in Mississauga, police say

Four children and a woman were rushed to hospital and two people are on the run following a crash in Mississauga, police say.

Peel Regional Police said shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Thursday that the two-vehicle collision happened near Ninth Line and Candlelight Drive.

Police initially said “several victims” were taken to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition, and later said the victims are four children and one woman.

Three of the children were later upgraded to stable condition, while one of the kids and the woman were still in critical condition as of around 8 p.m.

Two of the young victims are children of the adult female victim, and the other two victims are friends of the children.

Police said a black Range Rover collided with a red Honda Civic carrying the victims. Two occupants from the Range Rover fled on foot, police say.

The two suspects are described as Black males who fled northbound on Ninth Line.

The crash is believed to be tied to what was reported as an attempted armed carjacking at a gym near Winston Churchill Boulevard and Highway 403. But police say the incident wasn’t a carjacking, but an interaction between occupants of a black Range Rover and another vehicle.

Investigators are asking residents in the area of the crash to watch out for any suspicious activity, including possible discarded evidence.

Anyone with information or who may have surveillance or dashcam footage of the crash can contact Peel Regional Police by calling 905-453-3311. Anonymous tips may also be submitted to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by visiting www.peelcrimestoppers.ca.

When you contact Crime Stoppers you stay anonymous, never have to testify, and could receive a $2,000 reward.

The crash has caused “significant congestion” that could last until the morning hours and police are urging drivers to avoid the area and find alternate routes.
