A Whitby man is facing 68 gun and drug-related charges following a police investigation.

Today, the OPP announced that 20 illegal guns–including one assault rifle–and 73 kilograms of illicit drugs were seized following a joint drug trafficking investigation conducted by the OPP-led Provincial Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team (PGNG) and Montreal police.

According to police, the investigation identified large quantities of cocaine transported between Toronto and Montréal and the surrounding area.

Toronto police also participated in the investigation.

Police say that on March 27, officers executed two search warrants on a vehicle and residence on Ridelle Avenue in Toronto. Police allege that over the course of the search, officers seized approximately 60 kilograms of cocaine and large quantities of methamphetamine, multiple guns, 3,000 rounds of ammunition, bulletproof vests, one ballistic helmet and more.

Police say Bradley Nelson, 35, is facing over 60 charges in connection with the investigation.

The accused was held in custody and will appear in court on May 2.

“By working in partnership with law enforcement in Québec, the OPP-led PGNG has disrupted the movement of controlled substances interprovincial,” said Detective Inspector Lee Fulford, OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, in a statement.

“We will continue to work together to hold individuals responsible for drug and firearm trafficking.”

The charges have not been proven in court.
