From a neighbourhood bakery to a restaurant at one of the city’s busiest shopping centres, July saw more changes to Mississauga’s dining scene.

Here are two restaurants that closed in Mississauga in July:

Trigo Bakery

A once-popular Portuguese bakery in Mississauga has permanently closed.

Trigo Bakery, located at 289 Dundas St. E., was known for its fresh bread, pastries, cakes and sandwiches, earning a loyal following among local customers.

Many online reviewers praised the bakery’s bread and baked goods, with one calling it “the best in town,” while others described it as their go-to spot for fresh products and friendly service.

Customers on Reddit said the bakery was once busy enough to have lineups outside on weekends but noticed changes after the original owners sold the business.

A notice posted at the bakery, dated May 31, states the landlord terminated the lease for non-payment of rent and took possession of the unit.

Mado Square One

A spacious Turkish restaurant inside Square One Shopping Centre has closed — temporarily, that is.

Mado Square One, which opened in the former Jamie’s Italian space in 2021, has been marked as temporarily closed on the shopping centre’s website. A Square One representative confirmed the closure, while the restaurant is no longer listed on Mado Canada’s website.

A representative for Mado later confirmed the closure is due to renovations, although an official reopening date has not been announced.

The international chain, known for its Turkish ice cream, also serves breakfast, salads, kebabs, sandwiches, burgers, pasta, baked goods and desserts. Mado continues to operate several Ontario locations, including restaurants in Toronto and London.
