After a 19-year-old patron was found dead, a major nightclub in the GTA has been issued a liquor licence suspension.
Mister Wolf — a nightclub located on Toronto’s Queen St — was issued the order today by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, as it breached Ontario’s Liquor Licence and Control Act.
An investigation launched by the AGCO found that on Saturday, May 25, 2024, a 19-year-old male patron was served three large bottles of liquor alongside other guests inside the VIP section of the establishment.
Throughout the evening, officials reported that the patron began stumbling, could not maintain his balance and engaged in physical altercations with other patrons, all of which were noted as visible signs of intoxication.
Internal reports from the AGCO have found that neither security nor staff at the establishment intervened during this timeline.
After 1 am, the patron made their way up a stairwell that was blocked off to the public, he was then found the following afternoon (May 26) and was pronounced deceased.
Toxicology reports then confirmed that the patron’s blood alcohol was more than twice the legal driving limit under the Criminal Code of Canada.
As a result, the AGCO has concluded that Mister Wolf will receive a 60-day suspension for liquor sales in accordance with provincial policy.
“This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical responsibility licensees have to prioritize the safety of their patrons. We trust a 60-day suspension of their liquor licence will motivate this licensee to take all necessary actions to ensure responsible service and the safety of their patrons. The AGCO will certainly be monitoring closely that they do,” said Dr. Karin Schnarr, CEO of the AGCO in an official statement.
