A 14-year-old boy from Scarborough is facing multiple charges in connection with violent home invasions in Halton Region, with police confirming the youth was already out on a release order at the time of the alleged offences.

The arrest was made June 9 by the Halton Regional Police Service following an investigation into two related incidents on April 22 involving home invasions in Burlington and an attempted break-and-enter in Oakville.

Police say the incidents occurred in the early morning hours and involved a group of masked suspects targeting residential properties.

In one case, investigators say five males forced their way into a home in Burlington after smashing a glass panel on the front door and reaching inside to unlock it. Once inside, a confrontation took place with the occupants. Police say a resident was struck in the head with an object and required medical attention. No property was ultimately taken.

Earlier that morning, a separate attempted break-in occurred at a residence in Oakville, where suspects were seen kicking at the front door and using a hammer in an effort to gain entry. The residents called 911 and the suspects fled before police arrived.

Investigators later determined the same group was involved in both incidents.

Police confirmed the 14-year-old suspect has been charged with robbery, break and enter with intent, two counts of disguise with intent, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and failing to comply with a release order.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing in Milton.

In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the accused cannot be identified.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, with additional suspects still outstanding.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the 3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
