10 safest places to drive in Ontario

Earlier this week, we took a look at the top 10 most dangerous cities / towns for driving in Ontario.

And now, we’re looking at which places are the safest for drivers in the province.

The lists are from a study conducted by Toronto-based insurance rate comparison website MyChoice.

MyChoice revealed its updated lists earlier this week.

Despite all of its traffic troubles, Toronto has once again topped the list for the safest place to drive, MyChoice said.

Parts of the city (Scarborough and Etobicoke) were counted separately and also made the list.

“Using over 200,000 car insurance quotes collected through MyChoice.ca since 2020, including detailed accident and infraction records, we updated our rankings to identify where drivers face the highest and lowest levels of risk across the province in 2026,” the company said.

“Our methodology is based on the weighted averages of accidents and infractions (i.e. distracted driving, speeding) with a 70/30 importance ratio, creating a comprehensive scoring system from 0 to 5. This approach emphasizes the relative severity of accidents while accounting for traffic violations as a predictive factor for road safety.”

For Toronto: “The city shows strong alignment between accident rates and driving behaviour indicators,” MyChoice said.

The City of Mississauga is also on there, coming in at number three.

Here’s a look at the full list:

MyChoice said that while there “is some positive dynamic in certain areas,” the number of drivers with collisions on their record in Ontario increased from 10.78 per cent in 2024 to 11.06 per cent in 2025.
