Burlington Cougars extend winning streak to five games with pair of weekend victories

The Burlington Cougars of the Ontario Junior Hockey League continued their strong start to the season over the weekend.

The Cougars won a pair of games, extending their record to 5-0-0-1, sitting a point back of Georgetown in the West Division. They’ve now won five straight games.

On Friday, the Cougars thumped Markham 7-1 at Central Arena.

The squad showed off its balance as seven different Cougars scored a goal: Nathan Duplessis, Matthew Zebedee, Jamie Langill, Joseph Nikac, Josh Belgrave, Decaluwe Keegan and Nathan Naves. Kyle Metson stopped 24 of 25 shots to ear the win in net.

On Saturday, the Cougars travelled to Aurora and beat the Tigers 5-1. Goal scorers were Nick Sova, David Paluch, Belgrave, Naves and Josh Ziliotto. Zach Dietz earned the victory with 39 saves.

The Cougars next game will be a battle for first when they host Georgetown Raiders Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Central Arena. Friday will kick off a stretch of four games in five days.

They host Brantford Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Central before travelling to Georgetown Saturday, Collingwood Monday and back home Tuesday to face Stouffville.
