Zellers may be opening where you live in Canada

After the successful debut of a standalone Zellers store last October, the brand is looking to expand.

The discount retailer that’s died and been revived several times since its 1928 beginnings opened again in Londonderry Mall in Edmonton last October.

A news release from Zellers said that it was met with an “enthusiastic customer response” that has continued beyond the initial opening.

“Customers responded positively to the store’s approachable format, curated product mix, and accessible price points – all while embracing the nostalgic elements that have defined the brand for generations,” the release said.

“The Edmonton store introduced a thoughtfully curated assortment across men’s, women’s, kids’ and baby apparel, footwear, accessories, home essentials, and seasonal categories,” it added.

“Shoppers were drawn to recognizable national and global brands alongside everyday lifestyle staples, delivering strong perceived value and an easy-to-navigate shopping experience.”

Joey Benitah, the chief operating officer of Zellers, said the store has exceeded expectations.

“The excitement we saw on opening day has continued well beyond the launch, with consistent customer traffic, overwhelmingly positive feedback, and sales performance that continues to surpass our internal targets,” Benitah said.

“Canadians have shown a deep love for the Zellers name, strong enthusiasm for the new store concept, and genuine appreciation for the product selection and value we’re delivering.”

National expansion in the works

Zellers is now looking to expand across the country as part of a “phased” strategy.

It’s pursing leasing opportunities across Canada and is focused on getting locations in every major Canadian market.

“Our goal is to bring Zellers back to communities across the country, and we’re already in active conversations with landlords nationwide,” Benitah said.

Specific locations have not yet been revealed, but depending on where you live, you may very well see Zellers return (again) if everything goes according to plan.

The release said that announcements related to new stores, expanded offerings, and overall future plans of the “Zellers 3.0 concept” will be made in the coming months.

Benitah said that they’re also listening to customers regarding what they want to see more of.

“That feedback is directly informing how we evolve our offerings, refine the store experience, and introduce new categories and brands over time.”
