Youth from across Durham Region and beyond can join police for a one-day forum

Durham Regional Police’s Youth in Policing program hosts its 15th annual Ripple Effect Youth Forum this month.

This year youth can join in-person or online in a hybrid model plan on Wednesday, July 27.

Ripple Effect is a one-day large-scale event focused on bringing together youth across Durham Region and beyond. There will be workshops, keynote speakers, youth-led activities, and numerous opportunities for participant engagement throughout the day.

“We invite you to join us in a day of leadership and empowerment, all about creating your ripples of change,” Durham Regional Police note.

The event is targeted to 14 to 21 year old youth, and is open to youth all across the globe.

This year’s theme is “Defining Diligence” through consistency, cooperation, and conscientiousness. The emphasis will be on the role of diligence in creating ripple effects of long-lasting and impactful change.

Students can also get high school required volunteer hours. Youth can get eight volunteer hours for in-person attendance and up to six volunteer hours for virtual attendance.

Police are partnering with Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre to fundraise in support of families in the Durham Region facing a cancer diagnosis.

There will be a pizza fundraiser with proceeds going to Hearth Place.

The day-long event is from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at General Sikorski Hall, 1551 Stevenson Rd. N. in Oshawa.
