male youth charged in mississauga sex assault.

A male youth has been charged with sexual assault in connection with an incident nearly two months ago near the City Centre area of Mississauga.

Investigators with the Peel Regional Police special victims unit made an arrest on June 30, police said in a news release issued on Tuesday.

On May 20 at around 8:30 p.m., police received a report that a female had been approached by an unknown male and allegedly sexually assaulted that night in the area of Constellation Drive and Sunray Drive, near Mavis Road and Eglinton Avenue West, police said.

The victim was able to get away from her attacker and flee the scene, according to police, who added she didn’t suffer any physical injuries.

The age of the victim has not been disclosed.

Investigators later said they believed the suspect they were looking for had last been seen boarding a MiWay transit bus that was headed toward the City Centre Transit Terminal next to Square One from the area of the assault.

A subsequent police investigation that included the releasing of surveillance images to the public led to the late-June arrest.

A male youth faces a charge of sexual assault. Police didn’t reveal the age of the accused, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, nor did they say if he’s from Mississauga.

The investigation continues.

Anyone with information about the incident, or any additional victims, are asked to call police at 905-453-2121, ext. 3460, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
