A young figure skater from Hamilton representing Canada at the Egna Spring Trophy 2022 in Italy just had a very strong showing at the competition.

Hamilton’s Abbie Baltzer, 13, placed sixth out of 21 skaters in the junior women’s event on Friday (April 8) after two breathtaking performances that earned her a total of 140.96 points.

Baltzer, who is a member of the Hamilton Skating Club, was in fifth place following her short program on Thursday and heading into Friday’s main event.

Canada’s Fiona Bombardier, who is 16-years-old and from Newmarket, placed third overall in the category.

Edmonton’s Angelina Grant, 13, had to withdraw from the competition after falling and hitting her head during her free skate program on Friday. She was in seventh place after her short program.

Earlier this year, Baltzer competed at the novice level for the 2022 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships in Calgary where she came in third place. She is coached by Hamilton’s Jen Jackson and Bryce Davison.
