You can put unwanted goods–including furniture–on the curb this weekend in Niagara Falls

If you want to give some gently-used goods to the community (and maybe pick up a few new-to-you things yourself), you might be pleased to hear that the first community curbside giveaway of 2023 is happening this Saturday (April 15) in Niagara Falls.

The giveaway, which will happen again on Oct. 21, will run from 7 am until 5 pm.

During curbside giveaway days, residents are encouraged to place used items in good condition on their property (next to the sidewalk or curb) for others to take.

“This initiative gives useful items a new life while keeping them out of the landfill. It also encourages recycling, builds a stronger community and contributes to a more sustainable city,” the City said in a news release.

Residents can mark the items as “FREE” with a complimentary Community Curbside Giveaway Sign (or create their own). People can also donate any leftover items to a local charity or schedule a large item collection with the Niagara Region.

Residents are encouraged to share their participation in the initiative on social media.

As for what you can give away, the city says the following items are acceptable:

  • appliances (please remove all doors from large appliances)
  • artwork
  • bicycles
  • books
  • CDs/DVDs
  • clothes
  • computers and electronics
  • dishes and cutlery
  • furniture (with no glass panels)
  • kitchen gadgets and utensils
  • musical instruments
  • plants and potted trees
  • pots and pans
  • sporting goods
  • toys
  • tools
  • usable paint and building materials
  • yard and garden tools and equipment
  • other durable goods

Items that are not acceptable include non-reusable products, dangerous or illegal items and mattresses. Other items that you shouldn’t leave out are listed here

All items that are not taken must be removed by 7 pm.
