The biggest name in the history of professional wrestling has died.

Reports indicate Hulk Hogan, 71, suffered cardiac arrest in his Florida home and was rushed to the hospital, where his death was announced.

Hogan, real name Terry Bollea, was a hero to millions of wrestling fans around the world and helped revive the industry in the 1980s with his commanding presence both in and out of the ring.

According to TMZ, medics were dispatched to the WWE icon’s Clearwater, Florida home early Thursday morning … with operators stating it was regarding a “cardiac arrest.”

There have been stories circulating recently that Hogan was in poor health, but those rumours were denied by family members.

Hogan burst on the scene in the early ’80s and rose to prominence after appearing in a Rocky movie where he fought Sylvester Stallone’s character in an exhibition match.

From there, his larger-than-life persona took off with the help of increased television exposure and a physique that put wrestlers from the previous generation to shame.

Even though he had long since retired from fighting professionally, Hogan remained very much in the public eye, still appearing at major wrestling events and popping up occasionally on reality television.
