A worker exposed to chemicals after a spill at a Burlington warehouse has died.

Ontario’s Ministry of Labour confirmed the death following the industrial accident that happened at ControlChem Canada.

The identity of the worker has not been released but it is reported by the ministry that the person died in hospital yesterday (April 7).

Emergency crews were called to the Harvester Road site around noon on April 4 after receiving reports of the spill. Streets in the area were closed off over fears that fumes could spread.

It’s believed the worker was exposed to the chemicals after liquid spilled while it was being transferred to a container.

The ministry would not confirm details of the circumstances and says it is continuing its investigation.

“Our thoughts and condolences go out to the worker’s family, friends, and loved ones,” a spokesperson for the ministry said.

The company has also said it is carrying out its own investigation into the incident.
