A woman was shot in central Oshawa this afternoon and has been airlifted to hospital.

Police announced an investigation had begun into reports of shots fired shortly after noon April 13. Police arrived on scene in the largely residential Dean Ave and Normandy St area, just south of Olive Ave and just east of Ritson Rd.

Officers shut down the area to investigate and advised residents to avoid the neighbourhood.

At 12:30 police confirmed they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to a Toronto-area hospital for treatment via an Orng rescue chopper. DRPS has not specified her condition.

Police had one man in custody by the time of the follow up announcment. “There is no threat to public safety at this time,” DRPS said.

Police said they would release more details as they become available.
