Kaitlyn Pollack, age 20, was struck and killed by a pick-up truck on Wednesday.

The family of the woman killed while riding an e-scooter in Oshawa has identified her in a fundraiser launched in her honour.

According to Durham Regional Police the woman was riding an e-scooter on the sidewalk near the intersection of Harmony and Taunton roads shortly before 2 p.m. on May 17. As she crossed in front of a gas station, a 2018 GMC Sierra pulled out of the plaza and ran her over.

The truck driver remained on scene until first responders arrived. They have not been charged with any crime. When they got to the crash site, paramedics found the woman suffering from extensive injuries and rushed her to hospital. She was pronounced at the hospital.

Police did not confirm the woman’s identity at the time saying only that she was 20 years old.

A few days later a GoFundMe appeared which identified the woman as Kaitlyn Pollack. The fundraiser was organized by Port Perry’s Luchka Float Service, a trucking company that has long employed Pollack’s father Rick as a driver.

The fundraiser set a $10,000 goal to help with expenses. More than 230 donors quickly pushed the fundraiser past that. It has so far raised more than $16,000.

One such donor wrote of Pollack, “Kaitlyn was always such a kind person and great friend to all. We grew up together and I’m forever grateful for the memories and laughs we shared. Sending all my love and prayers to her family and friends.”

The fundraiser is still open.
