A manhunt is underway for an unidentified woman after she allegedly impersonated a Durham Region resident to defraud Mississauga banks.

Durham Police claim the woman stole the victim’s SIM card and used it to take over their phone number. She then used the number to two-factor authentication codes from TD Bank, police continued.

She then went to three TD Bank locations in Mississauga and, investigators say, used this method to transfer money out of the victim’s account and into another.

Police describe the suspect as a woman in her 50s with a medium build standing five-foot-three. She has long black hair and may be wearing glasses.

Anyone with information can call police at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5371 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
