Woman fatally struck by dump truck in Ajax

A woman is dead after being struck by a dump truck in Ajax on Saturday afternoon, police say.

Officers were called to the intersection of Hunt Street and Harwood Avenue South shortly before 4 p.m. after receiving reports of a crash involving a pedestrian and a dump truck.

Durham Regional Police say the truck was turning right from Harwood Avenue South onto Hunt Street when it hit the woman.

Emergency crews attempted life-saving measures, however, the 64-year-old woman died a short while later. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
