Woman dies at Brampton bar hours after being charged with impaired driving

SIU investigates after Brampton pedestrian struck by police car

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in following the death of a woman who collapsed in a Brampton bar just hours after being arrested for impaired driving in Caledon.

The probe by the SIU will look at the circumstances that began around 7:30 p.m. on Friday (August 5) when the unidentified woman was arrested by Caledon OPP and taken in to provide a breath sample. She was charged with impaired driving and released from custody.

The woman than went to a bar in Brampton, according to the SIU, where she collapsed around 2:30 a.m. (Aug. 6). She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Three SIU investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case. Three witnesses have been designated at this time as well as one police officer.

The identity of the woman and the location of the bar have not been released.
