SIU investigates after Brampton pedestrian struck by police car

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is looking into an incident last night in Brampton in which a woman suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a Peel Regional Police car.

According to the SIU, which investigates incidents involving police where someone has been seriously hurt or killed, the 29-year-old woman was hit as she crossed Central Park Drive near Hilldale Crescent on foot at about 6:15 p.m.

She was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, the SIU said in a news release on Saturday.

The area where the collision took place is a residential neighbourhood near Chinguacousy Park.

As of early Saturday afternoon, there was no update on the woman’s condition.

The SIU said three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.

The police watchdog agency is urging anyone who may have information about the incident, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.

Meanwhile, Peel police said last night that the officer who was driving the cruiser was not responding to a call at the time of the incident.
