Woman assaulted in failed attempt to steal her dogs in Northeast Hamilton: Police

Hamilton Police are investigating an incident where a woman walking her dogs was allegedly assaulted in an attempt to steal her pets in East Hamilton.

In a news release sent Thursday (Dec. 24), police say that on Monday (Dec. 21), at approximately 9:00 p.m., a woman was walking her dogs in the area of Beach Boulevard and North Park Avenue when she was approached by an unknown man.

The man reportedly initiated a conversation with the woman and he then indicated that he wanted her dogs.

The woman denied his request and the man assaulted her while unsuccessfully attempting to gain control of her dogs.

He eventually fled the scene and the woman received minor injuries as a result of the incident.

Hamilton Police are reminding the public to be aware of their surroundings at all times. When walking alone at night, stay in well-lit areas and when possible walk with another person.

The suspect is described as:

  • Male
  • Caucasian
  • 30 to 40-years-old
  • Baseball cap
  • Dark-coloured jacket

Police are asking the public to check their surveillance cameras for any suspicious activity and to contact Detective Sergeant Ben Thibodeau at 905-546-2907 if they have any information that could assist with the investigation into this crime.
