Woman and child carjacked in Mississauga.

Masked carjackers who terrorized a woman and her child near Heartland Town Centre in Mississauga on Wednesday night before fleeing with the vehicle are being hunted by police who call the incident a “disturbing event” for the community.

Peel Regional Police said in an email to insauga.com the incident unfolded just after 7 p.m. in a parking lot at Britannia Road West and Silken Laumann Way, steps west of Mavis Road and the large shopping centre.

As the woman was about to get into her rental car, she was confronted by two masked culprits who moments later sped away in the vehicle, police said.

A third suspect fled in another vehicle.

The woman had her child with her when the carjackers targeted the pair and the rented vehicle, police said.

There was no mention of the culprits being armed, according to police, who didn’t say if the woman was assaulted.

Witnesses and those with any information are asked to call police at 905-453-3311 or Peel Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
