Two Mississauga men charged in Toronto home invasion and carjacking.

A former Burlington elementary school teacher, now 85-years-old,  has been arrested and charged with sex crimes in a case that goes back to the 1980s.

According to Halton Regional Police, the incidents took place at Pineland Public School.

Members of Halton’s Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit say that in June of last year a man told police that while attending the school as a Grade 8 student during 1982-83, he was sexually assaulted by a teacher.

As well, this month a second person came forward claiming that while he was in Grade 8 at Pineland in 1983-84 he was sexually assaulted by the teacher.

In both cases, police say, the assaults took place at the school.

As a result of their investigation, police arrested Barbara Baxter, 85, of Burlington. She is charged with sexual assault and committing acts of gross indecency. She has since been released from custody with a promise to appear at future court dates.

Police say they are continuing with their investigation and looking for other possible victims.

Prior to working in Halton, the person charged was an employee at the Hamilton Wentworth School Board.

According to police, sexual assault charges can be filed in any case of touching a person without their consent where the touching is of a sexual nature, or where the sexual integrity of the victim is violated.  A sexual assault can range from unwanted touching to sexual assault involving penetration.

As well, investigators point out there is no statute of limitation when it comes to reporting a sexual assault.  This means that no matter how long ago the sexual assault happened, it can be reported to the police.

Anyone with information about this ongoing investigation can contact police at 905-825-4777 ext. 8970 or through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 and www.haltoncrimestoppers.ca.
