Police have suspended the licence of a driver from St. Catharines after he was allegedly witnessed fleeing the scene of a crash in Caledon while under the influence.

The OPP says that the incident happened on Friday shortly after 6 a.m. on Mayfield Road between Creditview Road and Chinguacousy Road in Caledon.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash and police say a witness saw one of the drivers take off from the collision before officers could arrive at the scene.

The OPP called in help from Peel Regional Police to search the area and said officers found the vehicle and the driver shortly after the crash.

Officers believed the driver was impaired by alcohol at the time of the collision and a 24-year-old male from St. Catharines was arrested and charged with multiple offences.

Police have charged a 24-year-old St. Catharines man with multiple impaired driving charges and one count each of careless driving and fail to remain.

The vehicle was impounded by the OPP for seven days while their driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days. The driver is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on Jan. 25 to answer the charges.

Police are reminding drivers to call 911 if you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs. You can also provide information anonymously by contacting Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.peelcrimestroppers.ca.
