Winter weather snow advisory Ontario cities

Bad news for Hamilton and Niagara residents hoping to stow away their shovels and boots and bask in the spring sun. Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for the areas, indicating that 10 to 15 centimetres of snow is in the forecast for Friday.

Snow is expected to reach Hamilton in the morning, impacting the morning commute, before moving eastward and reaching Niagara in the afternoon.

“The evening commute is also likely to be affected,” according to the special weather statement. “Surfaces, such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots, may become icy and slippery.”

Despite chilly temperatures in the areas recently, Hamilton and Niagara have been able to enjoy the sunshine as the official start of spring approaches.

Residents are hoping Friday’s forecasted snow dump, and proceeding flurries expected through Monday, are the last of it. However, The Weather Network’s 14-day forecast suggests we’re not out of the woods yet. Snow is also possible in the days following the official start of spring on Mar. 20.

In other words, don’t let this weekend’s spring-forward time change fool you. Keep those shovels handy.
