It might be almost April on the calendar, but Mother Nature seems intent on extending winter as long as she can.

A winter weather travel advisory in effect for the afternoon of Wednesday, March 29, for much much of the northern shore of Lake Ontario, including Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Halton Hills, Oshawa, Pickering, Ajax and Whitby.

According to Environment Canada, a sharp cold front will move through southern Ontario today bringing a burst of heavy wet snow. Wind along the front may gust as high as 70 km/h. This combination of snow and strong winds may create a period of challenging driving conditions.

Local snowfall amounts of one or two centimetres are possible. In addition, a sudden drop in temperature in the wake of the cold front could cause roads, sidewalks and parking lots to become slippery.

Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather. Drivers are encouraged to slow down while driving in slippery conditions, watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.
