Winter storm closing all schools from Pickering to Clarington

The winter storm arriving at our doorsteps tomorrow morning has iced up the last day of school for most Ontario children, with all schools in Durham closed tomorrow.
As the Durham District Catholic School Board put it, the health and safety of Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) students and staff is “our highest priority.”
“A major winter storm is expected in Durham Region later today that is anticipated to cause dangerous driving conditions, bus cancellations, possible power outages and dangerous winds on Friday.”
“Considering this information and the safety of students and staff, DCDSB has made the proactive decision to close all schools and offices on Friday, December 23.”
Similar messages were delivered from the Durham District School Board, the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board and the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland Clarington Catholic School Board.
Community Use of Schools permits will also be cancelled for Friday evening and all child care sites on school property will also be closed.
With the holiday break now upon us, schools will remain closed until January 3, 2023 and will re-open to students on January 9.
University and college classes will also be cancelled tomorrow, with Ontario Tech University issuing a statement that faculty and staff – except for essential service employees – asked to work from home Friday.
Campus facilities (many shared with Durham College), including the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre, Learning Commons, Libraries and Campus Fieldhouse, will close.
The Campus Ice Centre will remain open. Student services such as academic advising and mental health counselling will be available online.insauga's Editorial Standards and Policies advertising
