Winds between 70 and 90 km per hour expected in Mississauga and Brampton

A special weather statement is in effect for Brampton and Mississauga.

Strong winds are expected throughout Thursday, with gusts reaching speeds of 70 to 90 km per hour.

The strong winds have been attributed to a Colorado Low moving through southern Ontario for the majority of the day.

Winds traveling at that speed can result in driving hazards, such as loose objects and tree branches being thrown or knocked over.

Additionally, winds moving at that speed have the potential to knock over power lines, which could cause outages, a possibility for which residents are encouraged to prepare.
