A loyalty points program is on the way for Highway 407 ETR in Ontario.
It’s one of several changes for the tolled highway in 2026.
The loyalty points program was first announced last Fall, and while details on it still remain relatively scarce, a 407 spokesperson told INsauga.com that the public will learn more soon.
“At this point we don’t have any additional information to share, but will have new details in the Spring,” the spokesperson said last week.
It remains to be seen how exactly the points program will work and when it will launch. But what’s clear is that it will operate through the 407 ETR mobile app and allow for some free trips.
“Drivers will be able to earn and redeem points for free trips, offering an additional way to save on their bills,” a news release from the 407 previously said.
In a story published last week about the program, INsauga.com asked readers, “Will you drive on Highway 407 ETR more once the loyalty program launches?”
Three options were provided: “Yes,” “No,” and “Depends on how it works.”
As of Monday afternoon, the poll has received more than 5,000 responses.
The most commonly selected option was “No,” with 2,191 selections or about 43.7 per cent.
In second was “depends on how it works,” which received 1,870 selections, or about 37.3 per cent.
Lastly, 957 people or about 19.1 per cent chose “yes.”
As a result, based on those results, the 407 loyalty points program won’t make a difference for some drivers — they won’t be heading onto the 407 ETR any more than they already do.
But it may very well bring at least some additional drivers to the highway, though it appears many people waiting to see how the program will work exactly and what it will offer.
As mentioned, we should be learning more in the Spring, which begins in less than three weeks. The season starts on March 20.
This poll reflects the views of participating readers and is not representative of the Ontario population. Participation was voluntary and limited to the publication’s audience.
