A section of one of Whitby’s main thoroughfares, Dundas Street, will remain closed until at least Friday afternoon as workers make repairs to a burst water main.

The road has been closed since Tuesday when the water main blew in front of Los Cabos Cantina, flooding the street in the middle of an extreme cold warning. The road was swiftly blocked off between Lupin Street and Anderson Drive, a distance of about 800 metres.

Los Cabos Cantina has been closed since the burst, but are “working to get the back up and running.” They hope to reopen for take out on Friday.

The Region notes some of the many businesses in the area may experience water service disruptions while crews are at work. They stress it is important to run cold water from the taps for ten minutes once service resumes.

This serves to flush dirt out of the system before consumption and keep sediment from accumulating in the water heating system.

“The Region realizes this work is disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible,” Durham said in a statement as they asked drivers to remain cautious in the roadwork area.
