The Whitby Warriors Junior A lacrosse club used a huge third period to take game 1 of the best-of-three Iroquois Cup OJLL final 11-7 over Toronto Beaches.

Whitby was down 6-5 headed into the third but reeled off five straight goals – three by Adam Poitras – to put the game out of reach. Brock Haley led the Warriors with four goals, with Lucas Littlejohn and Parker Pipher adding a pair each.

(Littlejohn was also a member of the Pickering Panthers Junior A hockey club which went all the way to the Centennial Cup finals before losing to three-time national champion Brooks Bandits.)

Tuesday’s game was played at Pickering’s Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex, which is where game three will be if Toronto can win tonight’s game, the final home game of Whitby’s season.

Both Whitby, which last won the Iroquois Cup in 2013, and Toronto have qualified for the Minto Cup national championship, set to get underway in Brampton August 22-28.
