A suspect in a Whitby stabbing has been arrested after police found him on scene and engaged in a protracted negotiation for his surrender.

According to Durham Regional Police, they were called to Eric Clarke Dr. and Garrard Rd, a residential area in east Whitby, around 1:30 a.m. on Feb 13.

On arrival, they found a man, age 22, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Paramedics rushed the man to a local hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, officers found a suspect at the scene, but the man reportedly proved uncooperative. The officers began negotiations for the suspect’s surrender, which they described as “lengthy.” However, the police did not specify how long the process took.

Police say they eventually coaxed the suspect to surrender. They arrested Nigel Taylor, 47, of Pickering, on 11 charges, including aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement and failure to comply with a release order.

Taylor was out on bail at the time of his arrest.

Anyone with information about the alleged attack can call D/Cst. Adepegba at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1854 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at  1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
