Whitby pair allegedly defrauded retailer of $200K with fraudulent returns

A pair of Whitby residents face several charges after allegedly defrauding an unidentified retail corporation of $200,000 through fraudulent returns.

The retailer reported several fraud in their stores to Durham Region police in 2019. After a years-long investigation the DRPS Financial Crimes unit identified two suspects.

On March 22, investigators executed a search warrant at a Whitby home. DRPS say they found $30,000 worth of merchandise and $20,000 in gift cards belonging to the retailer.

Shane Fullwood and Julianna Talevski, both 29 from Whitby, face a variety of charges including; fraud over $5,000, possession of proceeds obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, money laundering and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

Fullwood and Talevski have been released from custody with conditions.
