It was in the cards for David Leger of Whitby, who matched all five cards in the May 8 POKER LOTTO draw to win more than $61,000.

The 57 year-old retiree also won $5,000 on the instant portion of his ticket, bringing his total winnings to $66,982.90.

When Leger checked his ticket at the store and learned he had a winning hand no one was around. “There were only a couple people there,” he said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect his cash. “The cashier didn’t know what was happening.”

Leger said he hasn’t shared the news with his family yet. “They’ll think it’s a joke, but it’ll be a nice surprise.” He plans to have some fun with his winnings and hopes to buy some gifts for his loved ones.

“I still can’t believe it! It’s a great feeling to know I won, but I’m still waiting for it to sink in.”

POKER LOTTO offers both instant in-store wins – of up to $5,000 – and nightly prize draws of up to $100,000 with each $2 play and uses playing card symbols rather than numbers. Visit the POKER LOTTO page on OLG.ca for more information.

The winning ticket was purchased at Petro Canada on Baldwin Street in Whitby.
