The Downtown Whitby Beer Festival returns to Celebration Square for its third year this weekend.

This marks the return of the annual festival after skipping the 2020 event because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Beer Festival highlights local breweries, such as Whitby’s Brock St. Brewing Company and Town Brewery. While the festival typically hosts 12 exhibitors, the show has been reduced to eight to allow space for social distancing.

However, those breweries unable to attend will have kegs featured in the Out-of-Towners Garden.

Oshawa’s Lowlands Fire Food will supply wood-fire pizza, and the Knights of Columbus will host a barbecue.

Live music will be supplied by Justin Cooper and Ian Conboy on Friday, followed by Matt Gunn, Zac Honey and The Doozies on Saturday.

Downtown Whitby Business Improvement Area Executive Director, Karey Large said, “It’s nice to be able to bring together people safely but be able to show them the downtown as well, which is the main purpose of the event.”

“It’ll be nice to see people back to just enjoying again,” she said.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event is being split into five sessions, each two-and-a-half to three hours long. The first two will be on September 10 and next three on September 11. Tickets are on sale via Shop Durham Region for $25 and will be sold at the door.
