A 48-year-old Toronto man who was a passenger on a coach bus has died after being hit by a wheel off a van and three others are seriously injured following a three-vehicle collision on Queen Elizabeth Way in St. Catharines on Friday night (May 24).

The crash occurred on the east lanes of the QEW around 3:40 p.m. just past the Skyway Bridge in Burlington, said the OPP in an update Friday night.

“This collision was the result of a wheel coming off of a passenger van, striking a pickup truck and then going through the windshield of a coach bus,” said an OPP highway safety officer in a social media video on the X platform.

Three other passengers on the bus had serious injuries and were transported to local area hospitals,” added the OPP.

As a result of the ongoing police investigation, the QEW Toronto bound at Glendale Avenue in St. Catharines will remain closed until approximately 11 p.m. on Friday.
