What's open Thanksgiving in Mississauga

Thanksgiving Day in 2023 falls on Monday, October 9 this year, as we head into fall and the beauty of all the changing colours.

In Mississauga, most major shopping malls and grocery stores will be closed on the holiday Monday, while Square One Shopping Centre and several others outside the city will be open.

Here’s what’s open and closed in Mississauga (and surrounding areas) on Monday, Oct. 9:


Open:

  • Square One Shopping Centre (11 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
  • The Walmart Supercentre at Square One (10 a.m.- 7 p.m.)
  • The Food District at Square One (modified hours) 
  • Whole Foods Market at Square One (7 a.m. – 5 p.m.) 
  • T&T Supermarket (9 a.m. – 10 p.m.)
  • Some restaurants, but call ahead to be sure 
  • Some smaller grocery stores, including Rabba, but call ahead to be sure 
  • Most Shoppers Drug Marts 
  • GO Transit will run on a Sunday schedule 
  • MiWay will run on a holiday schedule (check website)
  • Certain MiWay routes will not operate:
    – 28 Confederation
    – 35 Eglinton
    – 46 Tenth Line-Osprey
    – 48 Erin Mills
  • Region of Peel Transhelp (office closed, but service running 6 a.m.-1 a.m.
    All trips must be booked by 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8)
     
  • Other major malls that are open:
    – Bramalea City Centre (11 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
    – Toronto Premium Outlets (9:30 a.m. – 7 p.m.)
    – Vaughan Mills (11 a.m. – 7 p.m.)
    – Eaton Centre (11 a.m. – 7 p.m.)
    – Pacific Mall, Markham (11 a.m. – 8 p.m.)

Closed:  

  • All government offices at all levels of government, including City Hall 
  • Most major grocery stores 
  • Most major shopping malls including Erin Mills Town Centre, Dixie Outlet Mall and Sherway Gardens 
  • Heartland Town Centre 
  • No mail delivery 
  • Banks 
  • Libraries 
  • Community centres 
  • LCBO
  • The Beer Store 
  • Garbage and recycling will be collected one day later the week of Thanksgiving

Transit:

On Thanksgiving Day, Monday, Oct. 9, 2023, Mississauga Transit buses will operate on a holiday schedule.

These routes will operate at a reduced service frequency:

  • 4 Sherway Gardens
  • 17 Hurontario
  • 23 Lakeshore

These routes will not operate on this day due to low customer demand:

  • 28 Confederation
  • 35 Eglinton
  • 46 Tenth Line-Osprey
  • 48 Erin Mills

Garbage: 

There will be no waste collection on Monday, Oct. 9 (Thanksgiving Day).
All Community Recycling Centres are closed on Monday, Oct. 9, and will reopen on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
