What’s open and closed Thanksgiving Monday in Oshawa, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Clarington

This year Thanksgiving Day falls on October 11 in Oshawa, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Clarington.

While some places that are typically open will be closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are still ways you can enjoy the holiday this year in Durham. Besides staying home and stuffing yourself with turkey. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that)

Here’s what’s open and closed on Thanksgiving Day in Durham on Monday, October 11, 2021.


OPEN

  • Cineplex movie theatres in Bowmanville, Oshawa, Ajax and Pickering will be open, as will Landmark Cinemas in Whitby and Uxbridge’s Roxy Theatre
  • Some Shoppers Drug Mart locations
  • Some restaurants that are typically open on Mondays may be open but call ahead to be sure
  • Most craft breweries that are open Mondays will be open on Thanksgiving, including Town, 5 Paddles and Brock Street in Whitby; All of Nothing in Oshawa, Old Flame in Port Perry; Falcon in Ajax;  and Chronicle in Bowmanville
  • Recreation centres in Oshawa will be open on a modified holiday schedule
  • Cannabis stores
  • Convenience stores
  • Oshawa Zoo. Most other tourist attractions are closed

CLOSED

  • Banks
  • Government offices and most services
  • Post offices.
  • Libraries
  • Pickering Town Centre and Oshawa Centre shopping malls
  • LCBOs and Beer Stores
  • Most recreation centres, arenas and pools
  • Service Oshawa
  • Wal-Mart locations

TRANSIT

Durham Region Transit, Pulse and GO trains and buses will run on a holiday/weekend schedule


WASTE COLLECTION

Monday garbage and blue box collection will be re-scheduled for the next day
