What’s open and closed over the Easter weekend in Hamilton

It’s Easter weekend in Hamilton and this year, Good Friday will take place on April 3, 2026, followed by Easter Sunday (April 5) and Easter Monday (April 6).

Easter, also called Pascha or Resurrection Sunday, is a Christian festival and cultural holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans.

Here’s what is open and closed in Hamilton this Easter long weekend:

Closed Good Friday and Easter Sunday:

• All Beer Store locations
• Canada Post (no mail pick-up or delivery)
• All LCBO locations
• All major malls, including CF Lime Ridge
• Some restaurants (call ahead to make sure)
• Most major grocery stores, including Costco
• All City of Hamilton administrative offices
• The Animal Services Office and Shelter will be closed on Good Friday
• ATS Customer Service Office
• Dental clinics and bus
• Libraries
• Banks
• All Hamilton Civic Museums are closed Good Friday and Easter Monday, and the Visitor Experience Centre is also closed on April 5
• All non-emergency federal, provincial and municipal offices and services, including City Hall
• Municipally-run recreation centres and arenas
• The Hamilton Farmers’ Market
• The East Housing Services office at 350 King Street East will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday
• Hamilton Municipal Parking System Office
• Municipal Service Centres
• Ontario Works Program and Special Supports Program
• Provincial Offences Administration Office (traffic violations)
• Public Health Vaccine Records Line
• Tropical Greenhouse at Gage Park
• Van Needle Syringe Program will be closed on Good Friday

Open Good Friday and Easter Sunday:

• Splitsville Entertainment
• Some restaurants, but call ahead to be sure
• Hamilton Civic Museums that are typically open on Sundays will be open on April 5 (but will be closed April 3)

Waste and recycling Friday and Sunday:

• Community Recycling Centres and Transfer Stations closed on Friday
• No blue box, bulk waste, or garbage pick-up on Friday (pick-up will occur the following day)
• Regular collection on Monday

Closed Easter Monday:

• Canada Post (no pick-up or delivery)
• Government offices
• Municipal facilities (libraries, museums, City Hall, rec centres, etc.)
• Schools

Transit:

• HSR: On April 3, buses will operate on a Sunday schedule, with the last downtown trips at 12 am. There will be no service on routes 12 Wentworth and 42 Mohawk East. Regular weekday service will resume on April 6.

• All subscription trips (except dialysis) are cancelled on both days. If passengers need to travel on these days, they must make a reservation in advance.
• GO Transit will run on a Saturday schedule on Good Friday
