Here is what’s open and closed on Boxing Day–Dec. 26, 2022–in St. Catharines, Welland, Niagara-on-the-Lake and Niagara Falls.

Fun fact: It is called “Boxing Day” because – starting in medieval Britain – servants had a day off and would receive a gift box on this day.

This year, Boxing Day falls on a Monday. Because Christmas Day fell on a weekend, some businesses and offices will treat Tuesday, Dec. 27 as a statutory holiday (so if you plan on going out, call ahead to be sure your destination is open). A separate Dec. 27 list is at the bottom.

  • SmartCentres in Niagara Falls, Welland and St Catharine (normally 24 hours but a morning opening)
  • Outlet Collection at Niagara in Niagara-on-the-Lake
  • The Pen Centre in St Catharines
  • Fairview Mall in St Catharines
  • Briarfield Shopping Centre in St Catharines
  • Pendale Plaza in St Catharines
  • Three LCBOs will be open from 9 am to 6 pm. They are Ferry Street-Stanley Avenue in Niagara Falls, Geneva in St. Catharines and Glendale Avenue in St. Catharines
  • Four Beer Stores are open in Niagara Region from 11 am to 5 pm. They are St. Catharines, 99 Dieppe Rd., St. Catharines, 120 Welland Ave., Welland, 390 Lincoln St. E and Niagara Falls, 6757 Lundy’s Lane
  • There are over 60 Niagara-region wineries/vineyards and a handful (15 or so) will be closed. Phone your favourite for times.
