What’s open and closed Boxing Day in Oakville, Burlington, and Milton

Believe it or not, this statutory holiday is called “Boxing Day” because, starting in Medieval Britain, servants had a day off and would receive a gift box.
This year, Boxing Day falls on Monday, Dec. 26, 2022. Because Christmas Day falls on a Sunday, some businesses and organizations will close on Tuesday, Dec. 27, for an observed Boxing Day holiday.
This is the first Boxing Day in two years with no COVID-19 restrictions or public health measures in place.
So, without further ado, here is what’s open and closed on Boxing Day in Oakville, Burlington, Milton, and Halton Hills.
Open:
- Some restaurants will be open for indoor dining, takeout and curbside pickup, but call ahead to be sure
- Most convenience stores
- Some Shoppers Drug Marts
- Costco locations
- Loblaws locations
- No changes to garbage pickup days
- Two Beer Store locations in Burlington from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.: 2025 Guelph Line and 5051 New St.
- These LCBO locations, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.:
- Oakville, 251 Oak Walk Dr. and 321 Cornwall Rd.
- Milton, 830 Main St. E.
- Georgetown, 236 Guelph St.
- Burlington, 1235 Fairview St., 2025 Guelph Line and 2000 Appleby Line
- Some Starbucks (hours may vary at different locations)
- Mapleview Mall in Burlington from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Burlington Centre from 10 a.m. t0 9 p.m.
- Toronto Premium Outlets from 6:00 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- Milton Mall from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Other major malls that are open:
– Square One (8 a.m. – 9 p.m.)
– Bramalea City Centre (10 a.m. – 8 p.m.)
– Vaughan Mills (8 a.m. – 9 p.m.)

Transit
- Oakville Transit will operate on a Saturday schedule
- Burlington Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule
- Milton Transit will not be operating

What’s closed on Dec. 27, 2022:
- Banks
- Government offices
- Canada Post (no mail pick up or delivery)
- The administrative offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 23, and reopen Tuesday, Jan. 3, in Burlington, Milton, Oakville and Halton Hills.
- GO Transit will run on a Saturday schedule
