What’s open and closed Boxing Day in Oakville, Burlington, and Milton

This statutory holiday is called “Boxing Day” because, starting in Medieval Britain, servants had a day off and would receive a gift box.

This year, Boxing Day falls on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2023. Here is what’s open and closed on Boxing Day in Oakville, Burlington, Milton, and Halton Hills.

Open

  • Local parks and certain outdoor recreational amenities
  • Most Shoppers Drug Marts, but call ahead to be sure
  • Most restaurants will be open for dining, takeout and delivery, but make sure to call ahead
  • Some smaller grocery stores, such as Rabba grocery stores
  • Five Beer Stores in the region: 290 Hays Blvd., Oakville; 1071 Maple Ave., Milton; 236 Guelph St., Halton Hills; 2025 Guelph Line, Burlington; 5051 New St., Burlington; all from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Some LCBO stores may be open, check online to confirm
  • Conservation Halton Parks: Crawford Lake, Hilton Falls, Kelso, Mount Nemo, Mountsberg, Rattlesnake Point
  • Terra Cotta Conservation Area in Halton Hills
  • Some Starbucks (hours may vary at different locations)
  • Milton Mall (10 a.m. to 9 p.m.)
  • Oakville Place (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
  • Burlington Shopping Centre (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
  • Mapleview Mall (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
  • Toronto Premium Outlets (6 a.m. to 10 p.m.)
  • Square One (8 a.m. to 9 p.m.)
  • Bramalea City Centre (8 a.m. to 9 p.m.)
  • Vaughan Mills (8 a.m. to 9 p.m.)

Closed

  • Banks
  • City/Town halls
  • Most Halton Region offices and services, although all 24-hour/essential services remain open
  • Most community centres, seniors’ centres, pools, arenas and libraries
  • Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts
  • Mattamy National Cycling Centre
  • All indoor pools in Burlington

Garbage

Waste will be picked up curbside on Tuesday, Dec. 26, but the whole week will be one day later than your normal pickup.

Transit

  • Oakville Transit will operate on a holiday schedule
  • Burlington Transit will operate on a holiday schedule
  • Milton Transit will not be operating
  • GO Transit will run on a Saturday schedule
