When it snows — and it looks like it will keep coming — there are a few things to keep in mind if you live in Brampton.

Sidewalks

You can avoid penalties by keeping your sidewalk clear after a snowfall.

Residents must clear snow and ice from the sidewalk in front and beside their home (corner lot) by 11 a.m. the day following a snowfall.

Do not place shoveled snow on the street.

Seniors and individuals with disabilities can apply for the Snow Removal Financial Assistance program to cover the cost of hiring snow removal services. You can find out more about this program here.

When the city receives a complaint about snow covered sidewalks. an enforcement officer will investigate and may issue an order to comply. If the sidewalk is not cleared, the city will perform the work at the property owner’s expensive and add the cost to their taxes. In addition, a $250 fine may be issued.

Parking

On-street parking is prohibited during a snow event.

All special parking privileges are suspended.

Vehicles must be removed from the street to ensure that plows, salters and emergency vehicles can safely pass.

Crews will inspect, ticket and tow illegally parked vehicles.

Any fees involved will be charged to the owner of the vehicle.

Fines can get as high as $500 depending on the number of offences.
