With a little more than 100 days to go before Brampton’s municipal election, the City wants residents to be ready for the vote.

Voting day is on Oct. 24, and Brampton residents will have the chance to choose who is sworn in as mayor, who sits on Brampton City Council, and who becomes trustees of both the Peel District School Board and Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board.

The City is also hiring election workers with more than 2,000 positions available. Training is provided, and depending on the position you could make between $132.00 to $1,186.00.

Here’s a list of what you need ahead of voting day to make your vote count:

Determine if you’re an eligible voter

You’re eligible to vote in the Brampton municipal election if you’re a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old on Voting Day and live in Brampton, or are the owner or tenant of land in Brampton or the spouse of such owner or tenant.

Confirm your information on the Voters’ List

Check if your information is correct and up-to-date by visiting voterlookup.ca. The online portal will be active until July 21. After that, voters will be able to check their information on the City’s website starting in September.

Know your Ward before you vote

Residents can find out which Ward candidates they can vote for by visiting the City’s Find My Ward portal. You can vote at any voting location in your ward, and voting location information will be available on the City’s website in September.

Bring your ID

Voters must bring one piece of identification showing their name and qualifying Brampton address with them in order to vote. Refer to the list of acceptable documents for identification prior to voting. You can find a list of acceptable documents for identification prior to voting on the City’s website.

Advance Voting dates

If you can’t make it on October 24, consider voting at any of the Advance Voting days on Oct. 7, 8, 9, 14 or 15. Advance Voting information will be available on the City’s website in September.

Advance Voting is also an option for members of the community who may be busy celebrating Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas, which fall on the same day as Voting Day this year.

Proxy voting

If you are an eligible Brampton voter who can’t make it on Voting Day or any of the Advance Voting dates, you may appoint another eligible Brampton voter to vote on your behalf.

Any person whose name is on the Voters’ List or who has been added to the Voters’ List may vote by proxy. More information about proxy voting will be available on the City’s website soon.

Home Voting services

Eligible voters who are homebound due to illness, injury or disability may apply to vote using the Home Voting service on Oct. 11, 12 and 13. Limited appointments will be available to those who meet the eligibility requirements, with more information about the service and appointment process will be available soon.
