Walking back to your car only to notice a parking ticket is never fun, but there are ways to try and dispute them in Milton.

Residents who receive a penalty notice, which is also referred to as a parking ticket, must either pay or choose to dispute them within 15 days from the date that it was issued in order to avoid late payment or other administrative fees.

Back in February, the Town introduced a new way for residents to pay and dispute parking tickets.

The Administrative Penalties System (APS) allows those who have received a parking ticket to work with Town staff in order to resolve the penalty notice as opposed to going through the provincial court system.

This new system helps to avoid a lengthy and potentially costly process under the provincial courts and will offer a more user-friendly experience for those who have received a ticket.

Residents who have received a parking ticket or penalty notice now have the option to either pay the ticket within 15 days or dispute it by scheduling a meeting with a screening officer who will then conduct an initial review of the reported offence and make a decision to reject, reduce or confirm the penalty.

Should the customer disagree with the screening officer’s decision, the matter will then be referred to an independent hearing officer who will make a final decision on the penalty.

Residents are reminded that if they do not respond to the parking ticket or penalty notice by the due date, either by paying the penalty or scheduling an initial screening meeting, their right to a review will be waived automatically and the administrative penalty will be deemed affirmed and not subject to review.
