Election day is today and here is everything you need to know about voting in Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Halton, Niagara and Durham Region.

Although some people may have chosen to vote in the advanced polls, Monday (Oct. 24) is municipal election day in Ontario. It’s not too late to get out and vote for the mayor, councillors, and school trustees who will impact your community for the next four years.

Here’s what you need to know about election day:

When do the polls open?

Polls open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Brampton, Mississauga, Hamilton, Halton Region, Niagara, and Durham Region.

Who is eligible to vote?

Anyone who is a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old can vote. You must reside or own land in the municipality, and be on voters’ list. If you are not on the voters’ list, or if your information is incorrect, you can apply to be on the list. This may be done until the close of voting on voting day. Contact your municipality to find out more.

People serving a sentence in a penal or correctional institution are not eligible to vote.

What do I need to bring to vote?

ID is required to vote but it doesn’t need to have a photo, according to Elections Ontario. Examples of ID include a driver’s licence, health card or government document.

ID can be shown on a mobile device. International ID or permanent resident cards are not accepted.

How do I find my polling location?

Your polling location should be listed on you voter’s card sent in the mail. If you did not receive a voting card, visit city election pages in Brampton, Caledon, Mississauga, Hamilton, Halton Region, Niagara, and Durham Region.

Who is running?

Where can I find election results?

Visit insauga.com where results will be posted for each municipality as results come in after 8 p.m. on Monday (Oct. 24).
