We all know that Brampton real estate doesn’t come cheap and that affordable homes are, for the most part, few and far between. All that said, it’s often interesting — and enlightening — to see how local accommodations stack up against national ones. We know that a housing budget of $300,000 (give or take a few thousand) could net you a very comfy spot in Brampton and that that kind of dough wouldn’t go quite as far in say, Toronto or maybe even Oakville.

So, here’s a look at what a modest budget can get you in this city in comparison to other places in the GTA (and a little beyond).

Brampton

If you have $328,500 to spend, you can actually nab this three-storey, single-family townhouse in the Southgate neighbourhood. This place offers great space for the money, boasting a private garage and a private yard (things you definitely won’t get in a standard condo). This place also offers three bedrooms and boasts relatively reasonable maintenance fees of $299.19.

Mississauga

Mississauga has slightly more expensive housing (although it is possible to find spacious condos on tighter budgets) and $300,000 can get you a one bedroom, one den unit in this City Centre condo. Although this place doesn’t offer ton in the way of space (the Brampton town is much better suited for family living), it does boast a prime location (right in City Centre) and the building itself has nice amenities.

Hamilton

If you’re buying in Hamilton, your money is going further than it would in Brampton because you can get this fully detached home for $308,500. According to the listing, this two bedroom, two bathroom home boasts hardwood floors in the kitchen and an upgraded steel roof.

Oakville

For $309,999, you can have this three-bedroom, two-level Oakville unit with a bonus room. Although it’s located in a condo/apartment building, the space is incredible and location–it’s close to the QEW and Sheridan College–is convenient. The suite has two entrances and two balconies, so it shows you that you can stretch your dollars in one of the GTA’s more expensive cities.

St. Catharines

If you want to move closer to the Niagara region, you could grab this spacious bungalow in St. Catharines for $315,000. This home is situated on a 58.48 x 177.12 lot and has a finished basement with a separate entrance (meaning it could be used as an investment unit). It’s hard to find detached homes for $300,000, so this–from our vantage point, at least–seems pretty impressive.

Toronto

Naturally, $300,000 doesn’t go quite as far in Toronto. If you have a tight budget in TO, however, you can get this one bedroom Fort York condo for $309,900. This unit is probably cozy in size, but it features floor to ceiling windows, hardwood floors and quartz countertops. It also has a yoga room, and that’s pretty special.
