In 2024, it cost more than $5.6 million to pay the salaries and benefits of Brampton city councillors and cover their expenses.
The figure represents all costs associated with the offices of councillors.
A report that breaks down remuneration for councillors shows what they got paid, how much they received in benefits, and what they claimed in expenses.
The mayor’s office tops the list with $1,835,489.13 in total costs last year.
Brown was paid $154,312.24 plus he received $58,718.44 in benefits.
Other figures show $1,338,394.34 covered the salaries and benefits to his office staff, $259,094.77 was paid out for office expenses and $6,836.97 for telephone and internet fees. The mayor exceeded his budget by $314,471.36.
Each of the 10 city councillors received pay of $98,066.27 as well as $49,197.19 in benefits.
As for councillor expenses, Wards 9 and 10 representative Gurpratap Singh Toor topped the list with $23,030.55 claimed. He also spent $16,753.85 on “community development and sponsorship.”
The lowest amount paid in expenses was for Regional Councillor Michael Palleschi who claimed $109.99 and $79.20 on community development and sponsorship.
Of all the councillors, Rowena Santos of Wards 1 and 5 accounted for the highest costs with her office claiming $419,617.07 in total for pay, benefits, office staff remuneration and expenses.
The lowest total figure was spent by Palleschi and his office at $304,457.45.
Each of the 10 councillors had a budget of $420,700 last year and all stayed within that amount.
