WestJet will no longer fly to two East Coast cities from Hamilton, Ontario.

The Calgary-based airline is removing flights to Halifax, Nova Scotia and St. John’s, Newfoundland from the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport effective July 1, 2024, WestJet spokesperson Madison Kruger told insauga.com in an emailed statement.

The airline will also reduce service to Orlando, Florida from Hamilton, Kruger said.

WestJet had daily service to Halifax and several flights to St. John’s from Hamilton in June. A one-way fare started at around $200 to Halifax and just over $150 to St. John’s.

Flights to Orlando from Hamilton, offered several days a week in June, are not offered in July, August or September. They return to weekly flights Sundays starting in late October, according to the WestJet website.

The airline suggested there weren’t enough customers to keep the routes from Hamilton.

“The service adjustments were a business decision made as a result of performance,” Kruger said. “The decision to remove service is never taken lightly and we understand this is disappointing news for our guests and the community of Hamilton and sincerely apologize for the impact this may have.”

WestJet said they provided as much advance notice as possible to impacted customers either directly or through their travel agent.

Travellers who have tickets on a cancelled flight will be provided with a refund to their original form of payment, WestJet said.

WestJet will continue to serve Hamilton with non-stop connectivity to Calgary. There are several flights from Pearson Airport in Mississauga to East Coast destinations.

Other airlines offering flights out of Hamilton airport include Air Transat, Sunwing and Play.

WestJet acquired Sunwing Airlines in March of 2023 and is in the process of integrating the airline.
