WestJet airplane engine catches fire after landing at Pearson Airport in Mississauga

WestJet cancels more flights

A WestJet passenger plane caught fire immediately after landing at Pearson Airport in Mississauga last night (May 9).

According to various reports, the incident was described as a “minor tail pipe fire” in the engine and there were no injuries on board the flight, which was inbound from Edmonton and landed at Pearson just before 9 p.m.

The WestJet flight landed at Terminal 3.

Crew members reportedly put out the small fire quickly and the incident was contained. Pearson Airport emergency crews responded to the scene, but their services were not needed.

Cause of the fire is not yet known.

WestJet is a Canadian carrier based in Calgary that operates more flights out of Pearson than any other airport.
