WestJet announced today (Aug. 8) the return of 17 sunny destination routes from Canadian airports during the winter, including two out of Pearson Airport in Mississauga.

Starting Nov. 5, weekly flights from Pearson to Cayo Coco in Cuba will resume while Dec. 17 marks the return of weekly flights to Samana, Dominican Republic.

The Calgary-based carrier, Canada’s second-largest airline, shelved the routes more than two years ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Officials with the airline say the return of the flights gives Canadians more travel options.

“The restart of these routes is another positive step in the restoration of our network as we solidify WestJet as the reliable, friendly and affordable airline we are known to be,” said John Weatherill, WestJet executive vice-president and chief commercial officer. “We recognize the past three winters have been disruptive to our guests’ travel plans and we look forward to reconnecting Canadians to some of the warmer destinations they have missed the most.”
